Leaning Into Your Best Metals

Best Metals

It’s easy to focus on clothing when you think about your colors—but the magic often lives in the finishing touches.

Jewelry often sits right next to your face or directly on your skin. It reflects light onto your skin and when it’s in harmony with your natural coloring, it doesn’t just “look nice”… it elevates everything you’re wearing.

When it’s not? Even the best outfit can feel slightly off.

Let’s make this simple.

Your Best Metals, By Season

Each season has metals that naturally echo its undertones and clarity:

  • Summer: silver, soft silver, rose gold
    (cool, gentle, slightly muted)
  • Winter: bright silver, white gold, gunmetal
    (cool, high contrast, crisp)
  • Autumn: yellow gold, brass, antique gold
    (warm, rich, earthy)
  • Spring: yellow gold with shine, light gold
    (warm, fresh, clear, luminous)

Wearing your best metals brings a natural brightness to your complexion—like a built-in glow you don’t have to work for.

“But I Have So Much of the Other Metal…”
Good. You don’t need to start over—you just need to shift the balance.

Here’s how to make what you already own work for you:

  1. Mix with intention
    Layering is your best friend.

Add a necklace, ring, or earrings in your best metal alongside others. It subtly pulls the whole look into harmony.

  1. Stack + layer strategically
    • Stack rings in mixed metals—but include your best one
    • Layer necklaces at different lengths
    • Combine bracelets with one dominant “right” metal
That one correct tone near your face or hands does more than you think.
  2. Anchor near your face
If you do nothing else—make your earrings your best metal.
They reflect light directly onto your skin and make the biggest impact.
  3. Plate what you love
Have a favorite piece you’re not wearing because the metal feels off?

Jewelry can often be replated in a more flattering tone. It’s a simple way to bring a piece back to life.

I have a necklace that I bought in yellow gold before knowing silver was my best. I kept wanting to wear it and taking it off. I finally took it to Marlow’s (in Issaquah, Debbie and her team are amazing if you need anything) and sheepishly asked if she could remake it in white gold. She suggested rhodium plating it and $100 dollars later, it’s back to being a treasured piece in frequent rotation!

  1. Add an inexpensive “bridge” piece
You don’t need a full collection overhaul.

Even a simple, affordable piece in your best metal can tie together other jewelry and shift the overall look.

  1. …or an expensive investment piece
Even just one piece you adore everything about and can become a signature in your outfits can have you off and running.

One great purchase can often outdo many inexpensive ones when you look at price per wear! (We talk about this in a style appointment. Come back for style if you haven’t already.)

  1. Think beyond jewelry
    Metals show up everywhere:
    • Belt buckles
    • Watch faces
    • Glasses details
    • Handbag hardware

When these align with your season, your entire look feels more intentional (even if no one can quite explain why).

Why It Matters

This isn’t about rules—it’s about resonance.

When your metals match your natural coloring:

  • Your skin looks clearer
  • Your eyes appear brighter
  • Your overall look feels more cohesive and elevated

And perhaps most importantly…
You stop second-guessing.

It’s one more decision you don’t have to make—and one more way to show up feeling like yourself.

If you’ve ever felt like your outfit was almost right, but something was missing…

There’s a good chance it was the metal.

And once you see it, you won’t unsee it. ✨
